Pedestrians and cyclists

A pattern of development is proposed in which:

  • The design of the streets and places provide priority for pedestrians and cyclists
  • There would be improved connections across the A428 between North Cambourne and the southern villages linking into existing routes
  • ‘Bike stations’ (see photo) would be located around the development at key
sites and can be introduced within the
    Cambourne villages
  • The secondary school would be located at the centre of the whole Cambourne development, accessible by pedestrian
and cycle routes as well as local ‘hail and ride’ bus services

Travel planning

A community-wide Travel Plan would be introduced setting out a long term management strategy to
deliver sustainable transport objectives.

Public transport proposals include:

  • Bus services to St. Neots and Cambridge
  • Feeder bus services from the local area
  • ‘Hail and ride’ bus loop service around North Cambourne and Cambourne villages
  • New public transport interchange hub at North Cambourne with park and ride and associated facilities
  • Off bus ticketing option to reduce waiting times
  • Low emission vehicles
  • Real time travel information on website
