Drainage & Infrastructure
Water Use
The development will
incorporate measures for
retaining surface water.
Streams, ponds and lakes will
be considered as part of the
overall masterplan in order to
act as landscape features and
ecological habitats. They can
also be linked to the
recycling of grey water and
management of off-site flows.
Surface water drainage
The North Cambourne
development would discharge
surface water to the Ely /
Ouse catchment rather than
the River Cam, where in the
latter case there are flooding
problems downstream from
Cambourne at local
settlements.
On site retention systems will
hold back water from the
scheme to ensure that
communities to the north are
not adversely affected.
Foul water drainage
Anglian Water Services (AWS)
require the construction of an
on-site Terminal Pumping
Station at North Cambourne.
This will convey discharged
flows to the existing Uttons
Drove Sewerage Treatment
Works.
As part of this design solution
the treatment works will be
upgraded to provide greater
capacity to serve the
development.
Services
Initial consultations have been
undertaken to confirm
existing capacity and
availability of existing
services. The need for any reinforcement and/or
diversions will be assessed
and identified against the final
scheme proposals. All
necessary services are or can
be made available.
