Community
Increasing the size of Cambourne allows the opportunity to provide significant benefits for both the existing and new residents of the community.
This in part has regard to the limited size of Cambourne at present which (including Cambourne Enhanced) will provide a total of around 4,400 dwellings only. This is insufficient to support certain essential facilities.
Improved local facilities
Whilst there are primary schools, a local centre, a supermarket, hotel and part occupied commercial area at present, it is apparent that a number of important facilities needed to create a vibrant and sustainable community are missing. There is need for a secondary school as children are presently being bussed to the Comberton Village College.
The plan below demonstrates the opportunity for additional facilities as part of the North Cambourne scheme.
This includes a site for a
secondary school near the old
A428. In addition, primary
schools will be provided as
part of the scheme.
Other advantages include the
opportunity for mixed use
business development
including sites for both light
industry and essential
community services such as
garages and car repairers, not
presently available in
Cambourne.
Within the local centre and in
addition to further retail
provision, there could be the
opportunity to provide
additional amenities in parallel
or in addition to those existing
in Cambourne. This could
include future provision of
recreational and leisure
facilities, a community centre,
a doctor’s and dentist’s
surgery, pharmacy and
veterinary practice
